Octyl Methoxycinnamate

Octyl Methoxycinnamate is a widely utilized sunscreen agent that primarily absorbs ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation in the 280–320 nm range. By absorbing and dissipating UV energy, it helps prevent sunburn and reduces the risk of UV-induced skin damage. It is an essential component for effective UVB protection in sunscreen formulations.

Zinc Oxide

Zinc oxide is a mineral-based UV filter that provides broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB radiation. It acts by reflecting, scattering, and partially absorbing ultraviolet rays. In addition to its photo-protective function, zinc oxide exhibits soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, making it particularly suitable for sensitive or compromised skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a lipid-soluble antioxidant that protects the skin from oxidative stress induced by ultraviolet radiation and environmental factors. It neutralizes free radicals, thereby helping to prevent cellular damage and premature aging. Moreover, it supports skin barrier function, enhances moisture retention, and contributes to overall skin health.

Pola Wax

Pola Wax serves as the primary emulsifying agent within the formulation that facilitates the stable integration of the oil and aqueous phases, resulting in a homogeneous oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion. This contributes to the product’s smooth texture, uniform consistency, and enhanced spreadability.

Cetyl Alcohol

Cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol that functions as an emollient, viscosity enhancer, and co-emulsifier. It improves the structural integrity of the formulation while imparting a soft, velvety feel to the skin. Its emollient properties help to smooth the skin surface and enhance the overall sensory profile without causing irritation or dryness.

Stearic Acid

Stearic acid acts as a thickening agent and structural stabilizer. In the presence of triethanolamine, it undergoes neutralization to form triethanolamine stearate, an in situ emulsifying agent. This system strengthens the emulsion network, improves consistency, and contributes to the product’s creamy texture.

Liquid Paraffin

Liquid paraffin functions as an occlusive emollient that forms a protective hydrophobic layer on the skin surface. This barrier minimizes transepidermal water loss (TEWL), thereby maintaining skin hydration and preventing dryness. It also improves the spreadability and glide of the formulation, contributing to ease of application.

Triethanolamine

Triethanolamine is incorporated as a pH adjuster and emulsification facilitator. It neutralizes stearic acid to form a stable emulsifying complex, ensuring efficient oil-water dispersion. Furthermore, it helps maintain the formulation within a physiologically compatible pH range, enhancing skin tolerability and product stability.
